Quarterfinals Analysis: Budivelnik Kiev vs. Spartak St. Petersburg

Budivelnik enters the Eurocup Quarterfinals as the Group I champion with a 4-2 record. Spartak was the Group K runner-up at 3-3, though its nine wins this season are tied for second most in the competition. Both teams have been particularly strong at home, boasting 5-1 records. Budivelnik has shined in categories traditionally linked to big men: It was the Last 16 leader in rebounding (37 rpg.) and blocked shots (4.8 bpg.), with center Michailis Anisimov ranking as that phase’s top shot-stopper with 2 blocks per game. Spartak got things done with defense – it led the Last 16 by allowing just 68.5 points per games and with 8.7 steals per game – and by taking care of the ball. Spartak’s 1.68 assists to turnover was best in the Last 16. This is Budivelnik’s second trip to the Eurocup Quarterfinals; it lost to Cajasol Seville in 2011. Spartak reached the Eurocup Finals last season. This will be the first meeting between the clubs.
